Introduction

Introduction Science and knowledge have deep roots not only in Islamic culture but also in Iranian culture. Scientific endowment is also an issue that has been of interest in our country since the distant past, and we once witnessed the most considerable donations and endowments in the field of building and equipping schools, as well as seminaries and libraries in the country.
Today, scientific and academic centers benefit less from waqf resources. The studies indicate that many large universities worldwide fund a significant portion of their research and associated expenses through endowment sources. At times, governments may also receive financial aid from these universities.
One of the ways to popularize this tradition is to set up charity centers and associations based on new approaches that can guarantee the spread of the endowment culture in scientific and research centers in the country. In our country, scientific centers provide a suitable platform to expand culture and support research.
Undoubtedly, using the financial power of benefactors and philanthropists to conduct research, produce drugs, and develop new treatment methods is far better than using the power of these people to buy medicines and send patients to medical centers abroad. If a platform for scientific charity work is available in the country, philanthropists can collaborate and contribute towards it. This can pave the way for developing drugs or treatment methods within the country, benefiting a large number of patients and supporting domestic researchers. endowment is long-standing and well-known, undoubtedly, the formation or establishment of scientific charity centers can play a significant role in strengthening this tradition in the field of science and technology. Not only allocating scientific donations to science and technology provide capital for setting up knowledge-based businesses to earn money and scientific development, but also can be the achievement of technologies whose effects and benefits will last not only at the national level but also at the global level.
Encouraging and supporting excellence and innovations in any field, especially scientific fields, plays a significant role in developing solutions for cooperation and coordination between researchers and scientific centers. In fact, by using incentive strategies, a platform can be provided to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of these people. On the other hand, it should be noted that the government cannot handle the financial and management of this task alone. In science and technology, people should support the structures of science and technology. One of the ways to achieve this goal is to set up charity associations. Royan Health Research charity has also been launched with the same goal. This institute serves as a bridge between inventors, innovators, researchers, and benefactors. Royan Health Research charity is a non-profit and non-governmental institution that all scientists and researchers can benefit from. Royan Health Research charity was established to collect public and government financial resources for the development of science and technology. All philanthropists, scientists, and artists can support this institution through donations of capital, shares, cash, royalties, publishing rights, art, or land endowment.
It is worth mentioning that, Royan Health Research charity interacts with other supporting associations and foundations. Benefiting from the support of this institute requires going through several steps, and the justifiability of the presented plan must be confirmed. Allocation of credit to a research project is done on the condition that the proposed project is contingent on its potential global benefit and credit exchangeability. Although measures have been taken in this field in recent years in our country, it seems that culture-building can play a significant role in ensuring the success of these programs. Perhaps including topics on scientific charity in textbooks or producing written works may institutionalize scientific endowment in the country. Royan Health Research charity is at the beginning of the way, and this move can be influential in changing the scientific-research position of Royan and the country in science and technology for the next 50 years.
Royan Institute was established in 1991 by the late Dr. Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani and a group of researchers and physicians in the Iran University of Medical Sciences of Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research (ACECR) as an outpatient surgery center to provide medical services to infertile couples as well as research and training in reproductive sciences. In 2002, the research fields at Royan Institute also extended into stem cell studies. Afterward, the research findings were adjusted for application in regenerative medicine and cell therapy approaches. After succeeding three decades, Royan Institute focuses on increasing the success rate of infertility treatment alongside embryo health, and the level of public health through cell therapy clinical services.
Royan Institute of Stem Cell Biology and TechnologyRoyan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology (RI-SCBT), formerly known as the Department of Stem Cells, was first established in 2002 to promote research on general stem cell biology in Iran. Thereafter, the Department of Stem Cells was promoted to the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology which included three departments with multiple research groups that conduct studies on stem cells and developmental biology, regenerative medicine, personalized medicine, cancer medicine, biomedical engineering, and the brain and cognitive sciences. The institute is committed to cross-disciplinary partnerships and collaborations with biologists, engineers, and medical academics to improve health by providing a comprehensive and coordinated “bench to bedside” approach.
Royan Institute of Reproductive Medicine:  Royan Institute for Reproductive Biomedicine (RI-RB) tries to increase the fertility success rate alongside improving embryo health by researching different aspects of infertility and its treatment, with the vision of improving the population’s health. The main focus of research in the six departments of RI-RB includes: improving ovarian stimulation protocols; improving embryo implantation conditions; etiological diagnosing of embryo implantation failures and spontaneous abortions; improving sperm quality, count, selection, and isolation methods; evaluating the side effects of cancer treatments on gametes; studying the ovarian tissue cryopreservation and in vitro culture of ovarian follicles; early diagnosing of fetal anomalies; epigenetic study of sperm, oocytes, and embryos pre-implantation genetic diagnosis; evaluating the environmental and occupational factors affecting reproduction; studying the effect of quality of life parameters on infertility treatment.
Developmental Biotechnology Institute: Royan Institute for Developmental Biotechnology (RI-DB) was initially established in 2004 as a research sub-institute that is located in Isfahan Province. The endeavors of RI-DB have made Royan Institute the pioneer of animal cloning in Iran and the Middle East. Coming up with the first cloned sheep in the Middle East in 2006 placed Iran among the few countries having this technology. Making use of this technology in producing transgenic animals has led to bringing the goats into being in Isfahan and Tehran (2009) with the ability to secrete human coagulation factor 9 and human Tissue Plasminogen Activator (hTPA) in their milk.
